Should you oil or stain sauna wood?
Sauna makers sell 3 wood-care products listed here, and each page quotes where the maker says it goes. The maintenance guide covers wood care.
Read your own sauna maker's care instructions before any finish touches the wood, then read the care statements on each product page here, which quote where the maker says its finish goes. Filter the finishes by where to buy and price on the maker's site, and keep the linked maintenance guide open while you decide between oil, stain and bare wood.
Picks by the numbers
Each pick is the product that comes first on one figure its maker publishes, with the next ones on that figure after it. Choosing which figures to rank by is our editorial choice; the order on each is the makers' own numbers. None is a judgement of quality, we have not tested these products, and whether we earn a commission on a product never decides a pick.

Prices are the price each maker's own site showed in US dollars on the date shown; the seller's page has the current price. Warranties and safety listings are the makers' own statements, cited on each product page. A price starting 'From' is the cheapest configuration a maker offers, which may leave out the heater or options. Every product here is sold by its maker on the maker's own site. Where a product page carries a paid link (to Amazon or another approved retailer), Saunakivi may earn a commission; no sort order or filter favours those products. We have not tested these products.
